![]() ![]() The game uses a overworld style map for the party to go to and from destination with enemies littered throughout the map. Airship syndicate clearly knew what they wanted to do with this game and the best type of system that would convey it. But where the story is flat, the gameplay steps up Gameplay: Although Battle Chasers is a western game, it is through-and-through a JRPG. ![]() To be honest, there’s nothing outside the stereotypical, “Hey guys lets go kill the ancient evil while we’re here!” story. While searching for Gully’s father your airship is shot down and you crash land on a island that is being threatened by an ancient evil. Your adventure party consist of Gully (the daughter of the powerful warrior Aramus), Garrison (the somber, stoic, swordsman), Calibretto (an outlawed war golem), Knolan (a powerful wizard and friend to Aramus), and Red Monika (bounty hunter). There is plenty of reading material acquired throughout the game that builds on the “magicpunk” (my term to describe a magical steampunk feel) and the characters that you play as. I don’t know anything about the original run but this game feels like a “one shot” adventure. That doesn’t hurt the game too much though. So its easy to not know anything about the world setting or these characters. The catch to that is that the comic has only nine issues and last published in 2001. ![]() ![]() Battle Chasers: Nightwar is an indie game that was backed by a kickstart effort based off a comic book series of the same name by Joe Madureira Story: In true comic book fashion Battle Chasers story feels like an additive to its ongoing series.
